Update on AIT's flood 2012 preparation

Work is progressing to complete the building of the dykes around AIT as per the combined flood protection system approved by the Thai Government for AIT, Thammassat University and NSTDA. I have requested Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, AIT Vice President for Resource Development, to expedite the process so that there are no delays whatsoever in the building of the dykes.

An Emergency Preparedness Committee has been set-up under the Chairpersonship of Dr. Mokbul Morshed Ahmad. I expect the committee to further advise the AIT Management and the community on the necessary preparedness measures.

We are monitoring the current flood situation in Thailand closely. As per official figures, 5 provinces in central and northern Thailand have been affected by flood so far. It is expected that the run-off from the rivers will not cause serious flooding this year unless there is excessive rainfall. We will keep you informed of the situation, in case there is any reason for concern.
