: I am pleased to report that we have received the Indian Government Annual Grant-in-Aid in the amount of Rs. 300,000, equivalent to approximately 172,635 Baht for the year 2011-2012 through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. As per MHRD, this amount should be used for the purchase of books and equipment from India as well as travel grants for academic activities. The major portion of the grant shall be used in buying books and the remaining for travel grants of students focusing their research related to India. Students who wish to avail of this opportunity are invited to submit their research abstracts and transcripts to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) by end of July 2012. I would like to thank VPAA and our ERCO office for their active follow up on this matter and securing the release of the Grant-in Aid for this year.
§ Visit of Prof. A.K.A. Lawrence, SHIATS, India: On 11th May, Professor A.K.A. Lawrence, Registrar of Sam Higginbotttom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Science (SHIATS), India visited us and met with Dr. Peeyush Soni, Coordinator of Agribusiness Management (ABM), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), Mrs. Wannapa Pliansri, Coordinator, RTG Relations, and in-charge, Government Relations Unit (GRU), External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO), and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program Officer (ERCO).
The purpose of Professor Lawrence's visit was to strengthen the current partnership between our two institutes. I was informed that the process of recruiting the second batch under our unified bachelor master program in Agribusiness Management has started; and that the students from the first batch would join AIT from this summer. SHIATS has shown keen interest in exploring other areas such as faculty development and joint research and multilateral degree programs.
