Flood Warning in AIT, Bangkok

Dear members of the AIT Community,

We would like to inform the community of the possibility of flood on our campus.

As everyone may already know, Thailand is now experiencing the most severe monsoon rains and flood in 50 years.  Two months of flooding have inundated 58 of 77 provinces with 25 still severely affected.  This has brought damaged to homes or livelihoods of millions of people.  While the country has a network of dams and canals to contain the heavy rainfall, officials from the Royal Irrigation Department warn that several major dams are near their breaking point, with more torrential rain forecast in the coming weeks.

We, at AIT are vulnerable to these flood waters: by the Chao Phraya River from the backside of AIT, and from the Lopburi Province from across the Phaholyothin Highway in front of AIT.

The AIT Management Team has instructed our service partner to prepare and protect AIT from the possible flood.  To provide more areas to collect any unanticipated quantity of water which might pass through AIT over the weekend, the water levels in AIT's canals and backside reservoir have been reduced.  Additional 3,000 sandbags will be provided to the Physical Plant to repair any weakened points of our dikes, as well as to protect our substations.

In this extreme situation, the AIT Management Team would like to request the community to be vigilant in protecting yourself, family and property from the possible flood and hope we can overcome this situation.  Any suggestion from the community on how to further alleviate the situation will be highly appreciated.
